Either male or female, small, multi-stemmed, evergreen tree (1), perennial (2) Height: 3-14 m Leaves: 1-m, sword-like leaves, arranged spirally into a cluster at the top of the tree (1); each leaf has sharp-spiny teeth pointing toward the apex (2) Flowers: Male trees produce large clusters of tiny, fragrant flowers surrounded by white to cream bracts (2, 4) Fruits: Female trees produce multiple fruits forming into a solitary, pendulous, ellipsoid to globose-ellipsoid (like a pineapple); the fruit consists of several fleshy drupes/keys, yellow-red to bright red-orange when matures (3)

REGION XIII (Caraga), AGUSAN DEL NORTE, CITY OF BUTUAN (Capital), dry and dump and wet areas, like swamps, rivers, and fields. Also grown as ornamental.
