Herb Height: 30 - 180 cm Leaves: Leave opposite, trifoliate and sometimes five-stalked, ovate leaflets with acute tips and sharply serrated margins, and has the petiole which may be up to 2 cm long, the terminal leaflet being larger than the lateral ones. The ovate leaflets are up to 10 cm long and 5 cm wide. Flowers: Consist of a solitary terminal loosely branched heads on peduncles up to 10 up to 10 cm long. Flower heads are about 1 cm across with yellow disc. There are about 5 broad, white ray florets (these are sometimes absent) 5 mm long and 3-lobed at the tip, and numerous yellow, tubular disc florets. The bracts surrounding the flower heads are in two rows and the outer ones are broadened towards the tip. Fruits: Are black, narrow, 5-10 mm long and bear 2-3 stout, hooked bristles.
