Deciduous shrub or small tree Height: 5-7 m (3) Leaves: Ovote to broadly elliptic, entire, shortly pointed at the tip and somewhat heart-shaped at the base, the upper sirface is green and smooth, the underside paler, and densely covered with numerous, soft and stinging hairs (can be intensely painful), abundant on the leaves' margins (1) Flowers: Male inflorescences cymose paniculate glomerules, brancehs and flowers with dense stinging hairs while female inflorescences usually more than 10cm long, branchelets reddish green, with dense stinging hairs (2) Fruits: Small achene (2 mm × 2 mm), sigmoid to circular, somewhat flat, lightly tuberculate (3), fleshy, white to pale violet (1)
