Perennial shrub to Tree Height: 6-15 m Leaves: Leaves alternate, simple, crowded at the ends of the branches, obovate-oblong to oblanceolate (8-35 x 4-13 cm), leathey and mostly smooth, leaf margins are entire or finely toothed and petiole is short (0.4-1.5 cm long), base narrowly tapering, apex deep green, broadly tapering (1) Flowers: Bisexual,with pendulous racemes flowering stalk - up to 60 cm long or even more. Each stalk contans 20-45 ( to 78) flowers, which are night-blooming (opening at sunset and aborting by daybreak), mildly-fragrant flowers, all floral parts in 4s, sepals joined at the base, separating in 3-4 lobes, green flush with pink,petals elliptic, with numerous filamentous stamens that are white to pale pink. Ovary- inferior/epigynous, polycarpic (1) Fruits: small and buoyant which is well adapted for water dispersal, brown when matures with 4-angled or ovoid and corky with spongy interior, each is 2-6 cm long and 1-3 cm wide and contains 1 seed, simple fruit deshiscent dry or capsule (1).
