Perennial, evergreen tall, woody grass that grows in clumps. It's young shoot grow rapidly into tall stem in few weeks. Height: reaching 20 m high Leaves: Lamina erect, broadly triangular, slightly narrowed at the junction with the sheath, stiffly acuminate, hairy on upper and lower surface and along the margins, with slightly serrated ligule, and auricles with pale brown bristles along the edges (1). The yellow-green young shoot is covered with black hairs (1). Flowers: Not common but could produce large number of flowers that are borne on a leafless branch of a lafless culm or on a culm with small leaves, bearing small groups of pseudospikelets at the nodes; spikelets are laterally flattened, appearing strongly 2-cleft, comprising 5-10 perfect florets and a terminal vestigial floret (1) Fruits: no fruit
