A spiny-leaved shrub. Height: 0.8 to 1.2 meters height Leaves: The numerous leaves are linear lanceolate or sword-shaped and are 1-1.5 m long and 5-7 cm wide. Flowers: The small stalked red flowers unite at the base and mature into the fleshy fruit, the pinya which is 20 cm. or more in length. Fruits: A cone-shaped fruit consisting of the inflorescence cluster densely around a fleshy axis tipped with a rosette of spiked leaves.
