Digestive

Perennial or annual shrub or subshrub Height: Grows up to 2-3 meters high. Leaves: Leaves are 4 to 8 centimeters in diameter, palmatisect-palmate margins, variously toothed, and heart-shaped at the base. Flowers: Flowers are small and yellow with a purple or pink center. When ripe and in warm weather, the flower capsule will burst and expose the cotton surrounding the seeds firmly. Fruits: Fruit (‘boll’) a rounded capsule 2–3.5 cm long, beaked, surface smooth or very shallowly dented, with few oil glands, 3–4-valved, opening slightly when ripe, with up to 11 seeds per valve.

Medicinal Uses & Benefits

Piang (dislocated bone/sprain). Preparation: Collect 7 leaves and wrap it with a banana leaf and heat over live coal for 3 minutes. Part used: Leaves | Panuhot (flatulence), Butod ang tiyan (bloated abdomen). Preparation: Collect 5 flower buds of gapas, heat over live coal for about 2-3 minutes.. Part used: Flower bud
